Eminent Hi-Fi's steps to building a great sounding car stereo:

  • Add a subwoofer first!  Contrary to popular belief you do need a subwoofer and you will enjoy bass.  Did you know that without a subwoofer you are missing out on 25% of your music?  Others may tell you to change your factory speakers first, which is a great upgrade, but adding better sounding speakers does not ensure that you will receive that crucial low-end response.  Even in factory systems that include a factory subwoofer it is highly recommended that you upgrade your subwoofer because factory systems lack depth and impact.

  • Change your head-unit (radio) next.  The head-unit is the driving source to all of your speakers and amplifiers.  Most aftermarket radios have more power than a factory radio which makes all of your speakers sound better , even if they're still your factory speakers.  Plus, most aftermarket radios will allow you to seamlessly connect your iPod/MP3 player, satellite radio, blue-tooth cell phone, or whatever else you listen to in your vehicle; all without losing your factory installed options like steering wheel controls and OnStar.

  • Once you've added a subwoofer and replaced your head-unit it's time to replace those factory speakers.  Most factory speakers lack a tweeter which robs you of high-end frequency response, like cymbal crashes.  Get an aftermarket speaker that includes a tweeter and possibly even a component system.  A component system will have a separate tweeter that will allow you to mount the tweeter in a more ideal location.  The high frequencies that are reproduced by a tweeter disperse faster so mounting the tweeter close to the listening position is very important.

  • Sound dampening material, like Stinger's Roadkill, is always an excellent upgrade.  Add Roadkill to your doors to improve your speaker's mid-bass response.  Mid-bass is paramount to a great sounding system and one of the most difficult things to achieve in a car, especially without sound dampening.  Also, sound dampening your trunk and other parts of you vehicle is great for getting rid of rattles and unwanted road noise.

  • Proper installation is the single-most important key to building a great sounding car stereo.  Poor equipment that is installed properly is more likely to sound better than great equipment that is installed poorly.  Having Eminent Hi-Fi install your stereo will ensure that you achieve maximum sound quality out of your equipment for years to come.
