Clearly the best sounding W3's yet, these subwoofers feature DMA-optimized, long linear excursion capability to minimize distortion and increase output. W3v3's are available in single 2 ohm, 4 ohm and 8 ohm versions (6W3v3 available in 4 ohm and 8 ohm only) and are superb performers at medium power levels in compact sealed or ported enclosures. At first glance, you’re likely to notice the striking cast alloy frame design. These frames are much more than cosmetic enhancements, having been specifically engineered to provide increased clearance for greater excursion and to incorporate our patented Elevated Frame-Cooling technology. This cooling scheme directs high-velocity air flow over the top surface of the top-plate and onto the upper portion of the voice coil windings (the two hottest parts on a woofer). For style points, the mounting flange of the frame is dressed with a removable black trim ring (Patented) which can be painted to match the theme of the installation. Like the W7’s, the W6v2 subwoofers benefit from JL AUDIO’s proprietary Dynamic Motor Analysis system (DMA). This advanced technology allows us to optimize motor behavior, while taking into account the effects of real power flowing across the voice coil. The result is dynamically stable and linear motor behavior, which translates directly into reduced distortion and improved transient performance.

The W7 embodies JL Audio’s commitment to pushing the envelope of speaker technology, with six patented technologies and a completely unique set of component parts. Each W7 model has been meticulously engineered to reproduce sub-bass with extreme fidelity at any volume level. At first glance, you may only see a rather massive woofer, but as you begin to analyze the technology and the performance envelope of a W7, you will realize that they are much more than just another big SPL speaker. For us, designing a pure SPL speaker, with no regard to sound quality, would have presented a far lesser challenge than the one we chose to undertake with the W7 project. The goal was to design subwoofer drivers that deliver immense output with an extremely high level of fidelity. It wouldn’t be enough for the speaker to sound great or be loud, it had to do both. This goal required us to develop a deeper understanding of the inner behavior of speakers, new and proprietary modeling systems and six new, patented or patent-pending technologies. We could have made a good-sounding, big speaker without going through any of this effort, but we chose to stretch our limits and devote the time and resources necessary to create a real breakthrough.

Creating great sounding bass is not that difficult when the available space in the vehicle is generous and you use high quality drivers. When space is limited (like in stealthy custom installations or behind the seats of a truck or sports car), achieving excellent low frequency performance becomes far more challenging. One way to deal with this is to use small subwoofer drivers, like our 6.5-inch or 8-inch models, but if the goal is higher output bass than the small drivers can comfortably deliver, a more potent solution is needed. This is precisely where the new TW5 subwoofers slot into the lineup, offering groundbreaking performance in the tightest space applications. The patented thin-line woofer technology compresses the architecture of the woofer to make it all happen. Central to the technology is the “concentric tube” structure that supports the oversized voice coil and the suspension attachments. This permits placing the motor of the woofer much further forward in the speaker than with conventional designs, while maintaining excellent linear excursion capability.
